Cochabamba’s Premier Spanish Language Immersion School

Volunteer Bolivia’s Spanish Language Immersion Program is a unique way to study Spanish while exploring such themes as Bolivian history and current social issues and events. We believe that Spanish lessons are your key to getting to know the country and essential to having a successful volunteer experience.

The city of Cochabamba is the perfect place for learning Spanish as the local accent is easily understandable and people speak slowly and clearly in comparison to other parts of Latin America. Our school, housed in an old colonial style building, is centrally located in downtown Cochabamba’s cultural district making it easily accessible from any part of the city. Our cultural café features an in-house multimedia library and book exchange. The library includes Bolivian films as well as recent documentaries made about Bolivia.

Classes are for all levels: beginner, intermediate or advanced students, and scheduling is flexible. All instruction is one-on-one unless you specifically ask for group classes. There is no standard teaching text as the curriculum is customized to match each students´ needs.

Additionally, to complement your language study, we periodically offer talks and cultural exchanges as well as trips to historical and cultural sites in and around Cochabamba. Homestays and other housing arrangements are available.

IMMERSION LANGUAGE PROGRAM

This program is the most intensive language study program we offer, and is recommended for beginning students who want a strong foundation or for more advanced students working to perfect their languages skills. The basic course is one month long and covers all verb tenses and basic grammatical constructions.

To provide the most effective teaching strategies, you will study with two teachers who work as a team designing daily lessons. All of our teachers have more than 15 years of teaching experience and are professionally trained in teaching Spanish as a second language.

The Objectives of Our Immersion Program Are:

• Teach students to speak and understand Spanish within a political, social and cultural context.
• Immerse students in Bolivian culture.
• Encourage students to participate in the wide variety of cultural and social activities in the community.
• Broaden the student’s understanding of the political complexities of Bolivia.
• Give students the opportunity to practice and reinforce what they learn in class each day.

For travelers, long-termers, or our volunteers who want to keep studying Spanish after they finish the immersion course, we offer the option of studying by the week. These sessions can be arranged according to your schedule and needs. We also offer customized classes that focus in advanced grammar, writing and reading.

If you would like a change from Spanish, we have classes in Quechua one of Bolivia’s main indigenous languages. Quechua is widely spoken in and around Cochabamba. You can practice by conversing with people in the local markets!

HOMESTAYS

To complement your language learning, we offer the option of living with a family during your time in Bolivia. Our homestay program offers a great opportunity to practice your newly learned Spanish. Accommodations include your own room and three meals a day.
